Thirst! Lack of water can drive us mad. Lack of spiritual upwellings, oases, or streams of grace, can leave us devastated. Whether slowly drying out or suddenly deprived, we all need “living water,” as Jesus tells the woman at the well in last Sunday’s Gospel reading. For whatever journey you may be on this week, here is a prayer for a way watered with all you might need:
Rain maker, streamer of rivers, concealer of secret still pools; stumbling through the wilderness of our lives how we long for our souls to be watered. Each in our own way we ask for that water that will keep us from being desiccated, dry leaves of your family tree. Fill us with life, fill us with love, fill us with your up-welling strength for the paths we walk. In the light of noon, in the heat of our actual lives, you offer us this. Thank you. Help us respond in spirit and in truth. –Rev. Kent Gilbert
