Rev. Kent to Attend United Church General Synod, June 28-July5.
Rev. Kent will be away next Sunday attending the national meeting of the United Church of Christ denomination in Indianapolis. The UCC has roots that date back 400 years to the arrival of the pilgrims in what is now Massachusetts, and through its abolitionist missionary society played a vital role in supporting John G. Fee, Union Church, and the infant Berea College. Al and Alice White, Ruth McLain Smith, and the rest of the McLain Family band will perform at an outdoor concert during the conference alongside singer/songwriter Carrie Newcomer. Worship services and key note addresses (but sadly not the concert) will be livecast. To learn more about the events, speakers, and issues: https://generalsynod.org/ The Rev. David Jones, Union Church program coordinator and College Fellowship (ConneXions) leader, will bring the message at Union.

Community Friendship Program: calling open hearts
Do you want to learn more about the world outside the USA? Offer friendship to a freshman student far from home? If so, you might enjoy getting to know an international student! Community Friendship Program works with Berea College Center for International Education to connect new students with local individuals or families who can open their hearts, be a listening ear, make a call, send a note (or text!), and perhaps invite to join in an activity at home or elsewhere.
Note: Students live on campus, NOT at your house. Contact Laura Compton 859-353-1497, or email: communityfriendshipprogram@berea.edu , to get the 1-page application or to receive more information about the program.
Deadline is July 10. We expect 40 incoming students in August! (so we need at least 20 more families to sign up!)
