February may be cold and dreary, but it hasn’t slowed the Youth Group down! Well, except maybe for the flu…
At the beginning of the month, a couple youth who managed to avoid the epidemic went with the church family to Frankfort and had an opportunity to speak with two representatives at the State Legislature. The topics we were there to discuss were hard: gun violence in schools and suicide. But hard conversations must be had, and those who are the most impacted got to raise their voice in Frankfort.
Also, this month is Black History Month, which was started by Berea College’s own Carter G. Woodson. Berea College is home to Carter G. Woodson Center, and the Youth Group went on a field trip on a Wednesday night to tour the center and hear about the incredible stories of Carter G. Woodson and others who dedicated their lives to shining a light on African American history.
We will wind down (or up) the month of February by taking a fun trip to Lexington to visit a trampoline park. I want to give a shout out to Mike Murphy who has been helping us transport youth in his bus. Thanks Mike! Mike will be driving us up to jump our hearts out on the 29th. This should be a good way to bring some energy to an otherwise grey and dreary month. We’ll bounce our way right into March!
Also, just a heads up: The Youth Group Annual Talent Show will take place on Friday, May 1st. While this show will feature Youth talent, but we want to showcase the talents of all those in our community. So, if you have a talent that you can share with us that evening, please e-mail Chris McKenzie at mckenziec@berea.edu.
