Despite rain and chill, our intrepid young people finished out collecting bags for the hunger hurts food drive at the end of October. We discovered that trying to carry wet paper bags full of canned food makes for great comedy! We went bowling that same weekend (not with cans but with actual bowling balls) and I will blame stiffness from the previous day’s food drive for our scores.
We have been having some interesting conversations on Wednesday night. Last Wednesday the topic was climate change and stewardship of the planet. Our youth were really passionate and well informed about this! You can tell it is on their minds. This upcoming Wednesday we’ll be discussing Thanksgiving and all that is wrapped up in that holiday.
Our group is fundraising in partnership with the Equal Exchange fair trade company. The youth are selling fair trade Chocolate, Cocoa, Teas, Olive Oil, and Coffee. All of these make great gifts for the holidays so make sure to find a youth and have a look at the catalog. We will have a table at the upcoming Celebration of Giving event at the Acton Folk Center on the 23rd of Nov. so you can find us there.
Another opportunity to support the group in a special way happens on Sunday the 17th after church. The Community Life and Growth Board is having a lunch fundraiser to raise money for meals on Wednesdays, and to help fund our Kitchen Manager position (Breeze Zaring is doing a great job by the way). Come out and support this worthy cause. It is very important for the Youth Group that meals are provided on Wednesdays, and we appreciate your continued support on this.
I will have more to report soon, but for now, thanks for reading and supporting the Youth Group!
