Vigils for Slain and Wounded Victims of Orlando

June 12, 2016

Tonight at 8pm in Triangle Park Lexington there will be vigil for the more than 103 wounded and slaughtered victims of the mass shooting in Orlando. Our hearts break with the news of this tragedy and any who would like to attend are invited to meet at Union Church at 6:30pm tonight to carpool to the vigil.
At 6:00pm Monday (Tomorrow), a vigil will be held on the front steps of Union Church. In addition to silent prayers for the families of those killed and for those recovering from their wounds, we will create prayer cloths and flags to send to the night club in hope of bringing a message of healing to a place shattered by hate and fear.
Union Church joins with congregations of every religious tradition in abhorring this attack. This hate crime, seemingly directed at innocent members of the LGBTQ community affects every American and weakens the safety and peace of us all. We urge all persons to pray for these victims and  when your prayer is finished for them, we also urge you to rise from your prayers into renewed action to help MAKE the peace we so desire. Acting on your prayers for a better, safer, world is crucial if we are to curb gun violence and only together can we effect the changes so desperately needed.
In deep sorrow,

Rev. Kent Gilbert and
Rev. Rachel Small Stokes
