Hi, everyone. Our hopes for technological reporting were not realized in El Salvador, so we weren’t able to update as much as we’d like to have. We have all made it safely home, though, and have recovered from our various travel-related illnesses. It was an amazing and powerful trip. We’re planning now for ways to share that experience with the church. Stay tuned! Thank you so much for your support.
Here is the letter we were sent from our organizer Ivan, which speaks a lot of our trip. He included some pictures, too, and I’m sharing that with you now. [Yunior was our translator and a very powerful storyteller, and El Roble was the village in which we lived and worked the second half of our trip.]
Muchas gracias!
Rev. Rachel (Raquel)
Dear friends from the Unión Church at Berea, Kentucky,
Let me thank you all for having come to this trip with CoCoDA. As a foundation we are very happy to know that there are people like you that make changes actually happen.
On behalf of the community and CoCoDA, I want to thank you for:
1- helping us make this dream come true of having our own school after more than 30 years when it was destroyed by the bombs made in the US and brought to our country.
2- coming down to share a life experience with our humble folks from this community that suffered as many other communities the toughest of the war. We really hope that you learned a lot from them and rest assure that they will take you forever in their hearts.
3- carrying hope and a bit of development to our communities in this tiny country and
4- for strengthening the friendship and solidarity among both the Salvadoran people and the people of the United States. For showing everyone that cares to see, what the relationship of peoples of two different countries could be like and SHOULD be like.
We really hope that your call is to pick up this cause and you are able to speak on behalf of the Salvadoran people whenever you get the chance and become the ambassadors of the truth and the story of these communities.
Hope to see you all in November when we come visit in Berea.
Hugs from Yunior and the people from El Roble.
Ivan
