As we live out our mission and as we have asked ourselves, “What Next, Union Church?” two themes emerge over and over. We feel God has called and empowered us to reach to others with transformative power. And we feel that we should support such work with the resources needed to do real and lasting good.
This month we’ll be exploring what it means to Live Generously and how by doing so, we can build the strength, not just of Union Church, but of all the communities we touch. Right now, volunteers are putting together programs and ideas generated from the dozens of listening sessions we held. And we are putting together the financial and personnel support that will bring those ministries into reality. Giving of self, giving for others, and how to do so responsibly and generously will be our focus.
In order that everyone can plan well, we have partnered with Thrivent Financial, a faith-based financial services group, who will lead 2 workshops open to anyone. On October 23 at lunchtime, a workshop will be specially tailored to offer great options for generosity for those thinking about leaving a legacy, needing to do estate planning, or just hoping to learn more about great ways of being generous with assets that could be rearranged to provide both income for you AND income for those you care about. Another workshop, on the evening of October 24 (5:45 for supper, stay for the workshop!) will be chance to explore some easy, surprising ways you can plan to live more generously, whatever your need. Watch for more details!
We know that to accomplish what God is calling us to do in the coming year that we will want to fill our vacant associate pastor position, and provide materials and supplies for our amazing youth group and growing number of young families. So during this month please…
Pray about what matters what it has meant to you; Plan so that your finances permit you to live generously: helping neighbors, supporting holy work here and everywhere, sustaining your family; Then Pledge to make the healing, loving, transformative work at Union Church come to life for more and more people.
At the end of this month, we’ll celebrate and consecrate our estimates at a special service, and there will more information as we move forward. Join in! Everyone can and should Live Generously!
