Greetings, All,
I am writing to invite you to a surprise drive-by parade to honor Al White as he retires from Berea College. Alice White has arranged for a Lexington Mariachi band to perform from 10-10:30 AM on Saturday, May 9th at 13 Fairway Drive in Berea. Please note that this is not Al and Alice’s home. Their driveway is steep and is only wide enough for one car to pass at a time. Teri and Kelly Mehler have graciously volunteered their driveway on Fairway for the affair. The Mehler house is the first house on the right after Fairway curves to the right; the third home after the driveway up to Al and Alice’s house. Fairway intersects with Forest St. between Center St. and Estill St./Highway 1016.
Alice says that she can lure Al to the Mehler’s driveway without Al becoming suspicious.
Please drive by the house, waving to Al and Alice, go around the circle at the end of the road, and then return in the opposite direction. I think the band will be able to be heard from any location on Fairway. The members of Union Church are being invited; it might get crowded. Most of the people who live on Fairway will be part of the celebration and will be supportive of the noise and commotion. I informed many of them yesterday about the event, and they will share with the rest of the residents.
In order to be socially conscious because of the virus situation, we hope that people who drive will stay in their cars. The neighbors and others who live close to Fairway will probably walk. If you walk, please stay at least 6 feet away from other family clusters.
There will be a small table with baskets if anyone wants to leave cards, pictures of Al and/or gifts.
Thank you for reading this and considering joining us on Saturday to honor Al.
Please feel free to contact me if you need additional information.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Sandy Bolster on behalf of the large planning committee, not an official group
