We have all felt like outsiders at some time, and in making inside circles, we have sometimes put people “out.” As far as the work and direction Jesus called for, who really is “in,” and what does it mean for the work of Union Church? What does it mean for ANY church?
Jesus had some radical, even revolutionary answers to these questions. Answers that include challenges to those who think they are “out” because of who they are, or what they think. All this month Rev. Kent and the worship team invite you to be “All In” for our September series as we rekindle, reawaken, and renew our beloved community.
Sept 2: “All In, But What’s Coming Out?”
Jesus and the good and bad inside even the best of us. Communion Sunday.
Sept 9: “Called Out To Be In”
Even Jesus gets it wrong sometimes. Come ReKindle Your Spirit at our Special HomeComing Service.
Sept 16: “Inside Out and Outside In”
Our Youth Group will help us explore what is the work and value of being in and out. Youth Sunday
Sept 23: “The Inside Job”
Now that the Out is In and the In is Out, what’s the work?
Sept 30: “All In”
Taking seriously the beloved community that includes even outsiders like us. And them. And all the others.
With the start of the new school and program year and the coming together of our summer vision process, this is the perfect time to be “In” and to regather with friends and strangers alike on Sunday mornings. We want to build the strength of community, to explicitly welcome those who may have felt distant or unwanted in this work, and to follow faithfully and joyfully in the life and ministry of the Christ who taught us love, and peace, and wholeness, and compassion.
Make a special effort this month to be “All In,” and invite others to come and see. We need each other and we need to build a better, stronger, more loving, more just community. With revolutionary love and proclamation, let’s rekindle our spirit this month for a year of grace!
