Learn about preparing documents, investments, final arrangements, bequests, and even taxes! Lunch will be served, and a special update on The Matilda Fee Society will follow. Please let us know in the office if you plan to attend so we can plan for food.
Supporting Apache Stronghold: On Monday, September 16, the Church Council voted unanimously to support the “Apache Stronghold” movement, which is currently involved in legal action to protect sacred indigenous sites that lie on federally controlled land. Development rights have been granted to mining interests that would destroy these sites and limit access to the people who have held them sacred for centuries. “This would be equivalent to bulldozing the Cathedral of Notre Dame for open pit mining,” one leader told Mission Board members who met with them. Union Church now joins with many other faith communities calling for the protection of these sites. Members and friends are encouraged to learn more and become involved. apachestronghold.com
Compline tonight, 6:30 pm. The Sabbath Compline at Cowan Chapel is a night prayer of psalm, silence, and song — a creative hush with God at the end of the day at the beginning of the week, Sunday evenings at 6:30.
Each week, this short contemplative worship includes a psalm and a Taizé song. Cowan Chapel is adjacent to Union Church on the Scaffold Cane side.
Community Meals Every Wednesday 5:30pm-6:30pm: “Open Table” is a “pay what you can” ($0-$$) catered meal open to anyone. Chef Deb Beishline and a wonderful crew of volunteers prepare the menu each week always with GF and Vegetarian-friendly options (other needs can be accommodated on request!). Our hope is to remember the gifts of connection with great food the chance to “rub elbows” with neighbors. The food is great, the company is better, the hungry are fed, and we pray the love Jesus will be shown!
Menu for Sept 25:
- Potato Soup
- Chicken with wild rice soup
- Rolls
- Spinach & strawberry salad
