This week we celebrated the first week of Advent, the liturgical season of four Sunday’s leading to the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Advent is one of the oldest traditions in Christendom and was more than preparation for Jesus’ birth. It was also the church looking forward to the reappearance of Christ, the second coming, and a time of preparing ourselves for a kin-dom come. In the pastors’ ongoing sermon series on “Refining” and the refiner’s fire, Rev. Kent spoke about refining our hope into actions and spoke of the ways seedlings of hope are what we plant as a church. Here is the prayer written by him and offered beautifully by worship leader Mary Nash.
“Come, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come…” So prayed the faithful before us, and so we pray today on this first Sunday of Advent. May the seedlings of righteousness sprout in all people, may hope rise and be refined for all our lives, and may each second, every moment, be the moment long awaited. Come and pour yourself into the world again and again and light our salvation with love and power. Amen.
