In Jeremiah 31, God speaks of writing a new covenant, not on stone or on paper, but on the hearts of the people. The words of love and relationship will be inside and indelible. As you think about your heart, and perhaps the heart of your work and time this week, here is the prayer we held in our hearts on Sunday morning written for us by Rev. Kent and offered by our worship leader, Jack Marshall.
As you write upon our hearts, God of Change and Challenge, soften them with your compassion. Write boldly that we may steady our chaotic lives on the words of love and power you inscribe. Open us to the needs of those close to us, as well as those in every corner of your world. Help us in every way to live the love you are in each beat, each pulse. And as you open us to the hurts and heartaches of your children, give us hearts of courage, with the will to hold a better world in our sights. Give us strong hearts, and work worthy of them, risked in your service of blessing. –Rev. Kent Gilbert
