On this 4th Sunday of Lent (March 10) we read the story of the two brothers that Jesus recounts in the Gospel of Luke. The one brother “comes to himself” after blowing all of the money he got from his dad, and goes home to be a servant. The other brother, the one who stayed home and was the “good son” to his father, was indignant at the party the father threw for his profligate brother. At least one of the points Jesus makes is that both brothers were blind to the love of their father, and blind to the ways the kin-dom of God can come by multiple roads. Here is the prayer we prayed for ourselves and for the world.
Lord, When the dawn breaks upon us… in whatever darkness we sit…may it give light to all who sit there, waiting for release and in the shadow of death. Let the light break that we might remember who we are to you and find our way home. Let the light break that we might see your love of others diminishes not one whit the love you bear for each of us. O Infinite Sea of Mercy, heal us of all that harms us. We pray that you would make us servant channels of your gift of pardon, and that we too might be healed as your forgiveness passes though us to others.
