As we learn through Ezekiel’s vision of the valley of dry bones being brought back to life, and through the story of Jesus raising his dead friend Lazarus back to life in the presence of his loving community, it is the nature of God not to help us avoid pain, but to be born anew from it. As we experience our very human lives this week, full of pain and anxiety and difficulty, let us also seek out the joy and renewal that can be born in the midst of it.
Resurrecting God, as we look around and see only bones, only hopelessness, call forth in us the courage the pray for new breath, and the new eyes to see ourselves come to life in its presence. Strengthen our muscles, sew sinews back on our bones, open our lungs to receive your spirit. Surround us with prophets who will hold us up to your ever-rising vision; let us be that community to the dead and death-ridden among us, ever-praying, ever-hoping, ever-trusting in your resurrecting nature. In the name of the one who revealed your grace, Jesus the Christ, Amen.
