From the Nominating Board The Worship Board has an opening for one more member to help fulfill the important duties of serving as a greeter, preparing communion, coordinating Worship Leader volunteers, decorating the sanctuary, and other tasks, to ensure a smooth and welcoming Sunday service. Nov. 29, 12 noon Rev. David Jones will speak at Tuesday noon Chapel in Draper Hall on Berea College’s campus. All welcome to attend, followed by lunch.
Dec. 2 6:30 pm Crochetmas Tree Lighting ’22! First Friday Berea and Berea Creates Together will hold the “tree lighting” on December 2 at The Lot, 446 Chestnut St. Berea. Food will be available for purchase from Peg & Awl food truck. Berea Kids Eat will provide free cookies and hot chocolate.
Dec. 2 & 3 Berea College Christmas Concert 7:30 pm This annual event, back in-person this year (!!), celebrates the coming of the Messiah in word and song, featuring MANY Berea College Music Ensembles and staff from the Campus Christian Center. Livestream links will be provided.
Dec. 4 Climate Change Berea 3:00 pm Panel Discussion with Community School members (students, teachers, Board Members and staff) to discuss their thoughts and concerns about Climate Change & what they would like to do to make changes. We (Climate Change Berea) are starting with the schools and our young people, with hopes of having an impact on the community, local government, and businesses. Please join us! We will eventually impact the whole community!!
Dec. 11 Union Church Budget Meeting 3:00 pm. Our budget is a theological document that tells you where our values are and how we’ve decided to act those out. As the gospel of Matthew reminds us, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Please attend this yearly meeting to help decide where our hearts will be for 2023.
Dec. 11 Classic Chorale Christmas Concert 5:00 pm, Sanctuary In Dulci Jubilo -Carols Old and New All are invited to begin celebrating the holiday season with us as we celebrate our return to singing after a 2 1/2 year hiatus brought on by the pandemic. In “sweetest joy” in deed! Music by Buxtehude, Elgar, Vaughn Williams, Rutter and Forrest. The Chorale will be accompanied by piano, organ, string trio and flute. Admission $5. Reception to follow in the Parlor.
Dec. 21 LongNight Service 7:00 pm, Cowan Chapel Sometimes what can’t wait are the feelings of loss and grief. Christmas is not a denial of these hard realities, but meant to be a healing balm to them. On the longest night of the year, you are invited to join us for a “Come As You Really Are” service of hope, strength, and comfort. If you have experienced a hard loss, a deep grief, or are walking through a bleak place, this service is meant to hold and offer prayers for healing. You need not be a member of this church or any church to keep watch as we wait for the light to grow. This service will not be web-cast, but look for additional Healing Resources available for those at a distance.
Christmas Eve at Union Church
6:30 pm Outdoor Community Sing
Join in the joy of Christmas Eve with an outdoor community sing with candles and delight! Gather on the front lawn of Union Church with neighbors and friends. People of every church, people of no church, strangers and family alike can raise their voices on this holy night. Candles provided.
Join us for a special procession to the Christmas Eve (indoor) worship service following refreshments! All are welcome!
7:30 pm Sanctuary, Christmas Eve Celebration
The glory of God shines all around us in this service of music, word, and praise. This year our service begins at 7:30pm with a potluck reception of finger foods and cookies to follow. The service concludes with passing the light of Jesus, candle to candle: a truly wonderful highlight of the year. All are welcome and all offerings will go to support unfed, unsheltered, and unheated members of our community. Come be part of the blessing!

Beyond all the hubbub the quiet stable welcomes us to all the love that just can’t wait. Come join in a candlelit service with communion celebrating the coming of the Christ into the world and all that Jesus’ arrival means.
