Maundy Thursday is a moving candlelit service reading the passion story (this year from Matthew) and celebrating the last supper. “Maundy” comes from the Latin “mandatum novum” meaning “I give you a new commandment”, the commandment to “love one another” from the Gospel of John.
During this service read through the story and share a special communion meal. Each portion of the story is punctuated by musical pieces offered by our choirs and soloists. After each of the 12 readings a candle is extinguished and the lights of the sanctuary are dimmed. We end in silence and in darkness to wait with Jesus “in the tomb.”
The extraordinary music that will be offered includes a special bell piece, flute music, and Gabe Evans with tour-de-force organ compositions. It is an extraordinary service of both simplicity and power. Guests are especially welcome.
Doors open at 7:00pm for meditation and foot/hand washing done by our pastors, the readings will begin at 7:30pm.
