DACA Vigil tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 5) at 9pm in front of Hutchins library on the Berea College campus. President Trump announced today that in six months, DACA residents (children brought to the U.S. by their parents without documentation) will no longer have valid documentation. They are especially vulnerable because the government now has all of their information on file. If you can come tonight, please do. Wear Union Church T-shirts if you can. Neither pastor can be there (we are devastated about this), but we know Union Church will show up.
Donations to Hurricane Harvey victims can be made through Church World Service, which already has teams on the ground working. You can donate by listing Church World Service Disaster Relief in the memo line of a check, or by going to Union Church’s “Donate” page and clicking “Church World Service Disaster Relief” in the drop-down box after you sign in.
You can also donate Emergency Cleanup Buckets (contents are approximately $75) and Emergency Hygiene Kits (contents are approximately $15) to Church World Service, and we will get them to their Indianapolis Collection Point to be used for Hurricane Harvey victims and others in need. Click on the links to see exactly how to assemble these. Please do not vary from the instructions. All donations can come to the boxes outside the church office.

Scribes to help our Pastors. You may see a member of the Pastoral Relations Board standing near the pastors as they greet folks on their way out of the worship service. These are scribes—their job is to note important conversations and details the pastors might forget in the activity.
Shoes with Heart, a funds2orgs.com fundraiser, is collecting new or gently used shoes in Madison County. The money raised will benefit Drug Prevention Education in Madison County. Pair shoes with rubber bands or tie the laces together and bring to the box outside the church office. We will get them to our local organizer, who will handle the rest.
Are you a Creative Decorator? The Worship Board seeks folks to “boldly and creatively” rethink our sanctuary décor. Do you have some ideas? Can you help? If so, please talk to one of the pastors.
Help Wanted! We have an ongoing need for volunteers to help with Sunday services. Can you be a worship reader, greeter, coffee angel, etc.? For details go to the church website, union-church.org and click on “Volunteer” near the upper right corner (or talk to Doug Hindman).
