About Sunday Compline Service: The Sabbath Compline at 6:30 pm in Cowan Chapel (on the Scaffold Cane Rd. side of Union) is a night prayer of psalm, silence, and song — a creative hush with God at the end of the day at the beginning of the week. For the fourth Sunday of Easter and our last compline of the season, we’ll sing Psalm 148—its grand, harmonious chorus of praise—and we’ll conclude with the Taizé Laudate Dominum. Cantor: David Duffee; Instrumentalists: Susie Ritchie, Charles Hoffman

Got Grads? Graduation Season is Coming Up!  High School grads will be recognized on May 18. We’d love to know what school your grad has graduated from, their future plans and maybe a photo – thanks!

New Members Welcomed Next Week! As a family of faith committed to boldly & creatively embodying the life and ministry of Jesus, we would like to join with YOU. We’d like to be a context and inspiration for your own spiritual path, and work with you to make your heart, your world, your life more peace-filled and joy-full.

Next Sunday there will be an opportunity to covenant together — whether you are a member of the community who worships online, in-person, or both! No prior action on your part is required, but if you have any questions at all, we’d like to help. Working together, we want to make God’s love visible & real to all

Thanks to those who offered to house a student in need. We were able to find a good place thanks to everyone’s quick response!

Ways to Live Your Faith:
Have you thought about writing a letter to the editors of local papers? A short expression of your concerns from a faith perspective could be influential in two ways: published letters reach a wide audience and show a much wider spectrum of popular opinion than is sometimes covered. Secondly, even if not published, when a number of letters come in with similar concerns it informs editors that this is a matter of interest and should be covered. Requirements vary, but almost all Kentucky papers allow you to submit letters online and all have 200-300 word limitations. Be brief, be respectful, be forceful and clear.

“As a person of faith I am sad and disgusted at the way self-described ‘Christian’ legislators are enacting very UN-Christian laws, harming the very ones Jesus taught us to tend….” might be a good start!

Open Table to End the Season May 14. THANK YOU to Deb Beishline for shopping/prep/cooking and the “Worker Bees” for their gracious help!

Last Open Table before a summer break will be May 14.

Save-the-Date! Author Visit & Potluck Supper May 21, 5:30 Cecelia Burnell McKinney, a member of our Zoom Bible Study Group, and her daughter, Punkie, are coming to Berea for their yearly visit. Cecelia will offer readings from her books at a Wednesday Night Potluck. Cecelia was the sixth child of seven. The family moved from Indiana to Florida and back again as work was available to supplement farming income. A stop in Berea to visit her dad’s relatives occurred on most of these trips. Her great-grandfather, JC, and his siblings started Burnell Estates here in Berea. JC helped  lay the cornerstone of Fairchild Hall.
Settling in Florida with her husband, Cecelia taught for 32 years. During this time she joined a writing group. Starting with a prompt, memories were written, snippets of life from childhood to grandmother hood. At 90, Cecelia still reads and tells stories as a volunteer at two local schools, with a related craft or activity.
You will able to meet her and her daughter, Punkie, at Coffee Hour after church on Sunday the 18th and the again at the reading at the Potluck on Wednesday night for a great treat!  She will have some of her books for purchase and signing.

Do you need some work done? Kevin Kubik has got skills & is looking for work: plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, landscaping & more — call him at 256-777-1499 to talk jobs & rates!
