If you have been to church in the last few weeks you will see that the light bulbs in the chandeliers are gradually being replaced with brighter and longer lasting LEDs.
The original compact fluorescent bulbs were installed with the chandeliers in 2004. They began failing last year, and since all were installed at the same time, Properties Board knew they would all soon follow.
Rev. Kent and Church Administrator Dave Kobersmith began searching at that time for an LED bulb that would provide the right combination of color temperature and brightness. Compact fluorescent bulbs lose brightness over time and they were also more “yellow” in color.
The new dimmable LED bulbs use approximately the same wattage, but provide almost double the lumens per bulb. Because LED’s have to be carefully matched to the dimmer switch that controls them, 5 fixtures at the rear of the sanctuary were selected as our test. These 5 are all on one switch and were the easiest to reach. The rest of the bulbs will be replaced in the coming weeks with all the chandelier glass cleaned and ready for another decade! Many thanks to our volunteers: Joseph Jacobs, Susan Doring Zook, Roger Cook, Howard Carlberg, Bryce Carlberg, Kelly Mehler, Bob Boyce and Karl Holland!
