Saturday, Aug 2!!  Join us for an Old Fashioned Bring Your Own Picnic to the Saturday, August 2nd, 6:00pm, First Friday Event at Berea Park Expansion/Skate Park (400 N Broadway).  Meet up at the Union Church Info Booth.  Bring your own picnic (including your own water and drinks), chairs/blanket.  If you don’t want bring your own food and drinks, there will be food trucks available as well.

6:30 PM – Kids Life – Games

7:00 -9:00 PM – Free Concert by Levitt Amp – featuring the OxEyed Daises (blues, soul, bluegrass music) from Lexington.

Don’t forget to invite friends to join your picnic at the park and stay for the free summer community concert all while encouraging folks to visit our Info booth.

We could definitely use help setting up the booth at 5pm.  And tear down at about 9pm.  If you can help set up, host the church booth for an hour, or help take down, please email Sue Peterson at sweetsue49@gmail.com, or David Jones at djonesberea@gmail.com.

Again, like at the Spoonbread Festival  last year, we’d love it if anyone has any handmade crafts, art, or other creative items they’d be willing to donate as giveaways for the booth. Please let David know or you can drop off items at the church with Joan English in the office.

Picnic and Music at Park (002)

Leaving a Legacy … Join us Monday, August 11, at 11:30 am in  the Community Room to learn about Legacy Planning . Matilda Fee’s tireless work behind the scenes kept Union Church alive in “troublous” times. The Matilda Fee Society is for anyone who already has or is interested in including Union Church in your estate planning (will, insurance, etc). The lunch is free and open to all interesting in learning more and will especially be a thank you to those who have already made plans so the ministry of the church can thrive! There will be a short presentation on best practices and estate planning resources, as well as information on the ever-changing state of giving options.  For more info contact Union Church Engagement director, Jessi Montgomery (jmontgomery@cdlex.org). Please let us know in the office if you plan to attend so we can plan for food.

Summer Handbells continue on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm throughout the summer. The Union Church Handbell Ensemble will be having Handbell Skills Workshops, and we are welcoming new members — or anyone who just wants to try it out (no long–term commitment expected)! We will focus on basic skills such as reading music and especially rhythm. Location TBD, either choir room or sanctuary.

Sign up to Help Lead Worship!  Worship is the joy and work of the people and everyone’s voice is important. You can sign up to help lead readings and prayers on the sheets near the serving window downstairs at coffee hour OR contact Worship Board chair person, Diane Bailey (diane51bailey@gmail.com). No previous experience is needed! Rev. Kent and the Worship Board members are here to help. Find a date that works for you and lend your voice to our worship and praise!
