The Mission and Service Board would like to introduce the congregation to KIVA , “an international nonprofit with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive.” Kiva makes microloans to entrepreneurs in distressed areas of the world. The lender (you) loans as little as $25.00 toward a project of your choice. When the full amount of the request is achieved the borrower receives the loan and pays it back over time. The payment goes back into your account for you to lend again. Visit their website for a full description of the process. www.kiva.org.
Due to the COVID19 impact on small businesses, KIVA has expanded their mission to include requests from the United States. You could loan a struggling small business funds to help them survive.
Some members of the congregation have been involved with KIVA for several years. Recently Union Church has established a KIVA team. If you want to become a KIVA lender, joining as a team member will provide the Church with a record of our collective contributions. You can read the purpose and or join the Union Church KIVA team at www.kiva.org/team/union_church_berea .
