Kentucky River Foothills will begin offering Crisis Energy Assistance Jan. 9 Homeowners and renters are encouraged to apply as soon as possible
Kentucky River Foothills is continuing to provide energy assistance through the crisis component of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Applications can be made from January 9 through March 31, 2023, or until available funds have been expended. The program assists households experiencing a home heating crisis situation.
Individuals and households that have already received assistance this year are eligible to receive additional help. Households can reapply each time they experience a crisis situation until they reached their maximum benefit. Benefits are paid directly to the primary fuel vendor. Benefits may take the form of bulk fuel deliveries or pending utility disconnect. Crisis relief will be provided within 48 hours or 18 hours if an emergency.
A household is considered to be eligible for energy assistance when the household meets the basic eligibility criteria which includes:
1. completion of an application;
2. is responsible for home energy costs, directly or as an undesignated portion of their rent;
3. have a combined household income, for the calendar month prior to the month of application, not in excess of 130% of the federal poverty level as listed in the Income Eligibility Guidelines; and
4. live in Kentucky when the application is made and apply in the county of residence.
There is additional info available about eligibility and how to apply—check out the poster in the back hallway OR email the office and we’ll send what we have. office@union-church.
From Rev. Kent, We want to provide you with an update on the current state of the sprinkler flood repair at Union Church.
First and foremost, we believe that thanks to the efforts of our volunteers, major damage to floors, pews, and electrical systems was averted. We are extremely grateful for everyone’s hard work and dedication in helping us mitigate the damage caused by the malfunctioning sprinkler head.
We have had initial damage inspections and are currently waiting on inspectors from the sprinkler company, HVAC, and carpet companies to assess the full extent of the damage. Once these inspections are complete, we will have a better understanding of what repairs need to be made and the estimated cost of those repairs.
Going forward, we will be working with our insurance company to determine what other
mitigation measures they recommend and their estimated cost of repair. Once we have this information, we will be able to determine what can be saved and what needs to be removed. We will keep you updated on these developments as they occur and may have certain volunteer opportunities and/or a work day or two to remove damaged material. We’ll let everyone know!
We won’t know when we can move back in for a few weeks. We are planning to continue to use Cowan Chapel through February.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this difficult time. For the time being, we will be worshiping Cowan Chapel Wishing you all the best for a happier and more joyous 2023!
Sincerely,
Rev. Kent
