Children Are Welcome in the service, and a Staffed Nursery is available!
Please note that Union Church services are livestreamed.
Justice Candle Honorees sought. Would you like to nominate some folks for us to highlight? They can be living or dead, famous or not. We’d especially love stories of people who are local to Berea, or close to your hearts, and we love to have stories of children and young people, too.
It helps us remember that each of us can do God’s work of advocating for those who are poor and/or oppressed, for the environment, for peace and reconciliation. Every choice we make, from how we speak and act to what we eat or wear and where that food and clothing come from has an effect, one way or another, on the cause of peace, justice, and equity for all.
We’ve got a lot of little lights out there — let’s help them shine!
You can nominate people by contacting Tennant Kirk tykirk53@gmail.com.
If there is a special date associated with that person or people, let us know that, too.
Opening on Worship Board for one more member to help fulfill the important duties of serving as a greeter, preparing communion, coordinating Worship Leader volunteers, decorating the sanctuary, and other tasks, to ensure a smooth and welcoming Sunday service. From Kim Kobersmith, Church Council Chairperson:
Dear Union Church family,
This is Kim Kobersmith, Church Council chair, letting you know about an accident in our building yesterday. A faulty sprinkler head above the sanctuary side balcony went off and flooded parts of the balcony, sanctuary floor, and downstairs community room level. The front balcony level, where our organ, piano, and pulpit are, was not affected.
Thanks to a bevy of volunteers, we are well on our way to drying everything out and salvaging as much as possible. We have started the process of making a claim with our insurance company and will know more in the next couple of days. **If you helped with any clean-up tasks at all, please email Joan at office@union-church.org, as the insurance company will reimburse us for your VERY appreciated volunteer labor. **
We will not be able to use the sanctuary for the foreseeable future, but that will not stop us from gathering and worshipping! Sunday worship will be held in Cowan Chapel and will be broadcast on all of our usual channels.
We owe a debt of considerable gratitude to our staff, especially Kent, Joan, and Dave, who are supposed to be taking the week off. Instead, they quickly responded to the emergency call Tuesday afternoon and continue to coordinate cleaning up our beloved building, all while making innumerable logistical decisions to move forward with repairs and our on-going ministry.
Friends, we are blessed. Thank you for being part of the family. Right now, caring for our building is what love demands.
Best,
Kim
