Scientific research efforts and evidence have proved that the climate crisis is very real. Temperatures are increasing and by 2050, many ecosystems and the food production industry will no longer be able to sustain themselves as the currently exist. There will be increased flooding in coastal areas causing mass human displacement, increased rate and intensity of natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires, and rainfall flux that will cause mass crop failure. For young people, this is one of the greatest threats of our time and could define our generation. And yet our government and those in power continue to dismiss, ignore, push aside and even deny this disaster. We don’t have time to dismiss any longer. In fact, we are too late to prevent some of the fallout. But that doesn’t mean we give up and let it get even worse. We must show our country, our government and our world that we care and that we will fight to make things better for our own futures and, one day, for our children’s futures as well. Our individual efforts (i.e conserving energy, conscientious consumerism) are no doubt important and honorable, but just that isn’t going to be enough anymore. We need to change the system itself. We need to change what provides our energy. The age of fossil fuels must end if there is to be any hope for taming the climate crisis. Show the world that it’s time for fossil fuels to die. Join us in the strike on September 20th and stand up for your future and your home. Spread the word and let us stand together in solidarity.
