Thanks to the generosity and forethought of Merlin Kindel (who passed away in October of 2015), the church has received funds from his bequest that will make possible two important building projects. Merlin was a stalwart Trustee and Moderator of Union Church and worked many hours during his life to make our building a loving shelter for the works of God he cherished.
Thanks to his naming Union Church in his will, our Properties Board will now be able to undertake the critical repair of the Cowan Chapel windows, estimated to cost more than $12,000. 35yrs of weather have rotted the wooden frames of these artistic treasures. Merlin’s gift will enable us to replace rotted wood, clean the windows, and install protective Lexan sheeting on the outside to keep them safe for future generations.
We will also be able to completely renovate the stairwell entrance to Cowan Chapel, removing and replacing the asbestos tiles, repainting, and carpeting the Chapel landing to reduce noise. Thanks to the bequest we will be able to re-tile both the lower and 3rd floor, removing the old tiling from those spaces as well.
If you’d like to know more about the project as it proceeds or if you’d like more information about how to include the work you care about at Union Church in your estate planning, we’d be happy to help. Contact Dave Kobersmith, (davek@union-church.org) Church Administrator, or either of the pastors!
