Now, God be praised, that to believing souls
Gives light in darkness, comfort in despair!…
Poor soul, God’s goodness hath been great to thee:

Prelude Prelude in Classic Style G. Young
* Call to Worship
One: Come, walk in green pastures.
All: We follow the Shepherd.
One: Come, lie down by still waters.
All: We trust the Shepherd.
One: Come, dine at the table of abundance.
All: We are fed by the Shepherd.
One: Come, dwell in God’s house.
All: We shall live in the Shepherd’s care.
One: Come, let us worship in song and jubilation!
adapted from The Abingdon Worship Annual 2012
* Hymn #252 Black Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us Bradbury
* Affirmation of Faith
One: So many voices call us in the wilderness, O God. So many hired hands seeking to get anyone they can. It’s all about numbers. They don’t know our names. They only know our dollar value.
But You, O God, You know our names; You call us in bright daylight and deepest night. You are our Good Shepherd.
May we be reminded of this today, as we recite the old language of our ancestors, taught to us and ingrained deep in our hearts, that we may remember again of your love:
All: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Amen.
* Passing the Peace of Jesus Christ
All who come to this sanctuary are welcome companions on this day! You are invited to turn to those nearest you and greet them with words of peace and joy.

With a voice of singing declare ye this, and let it be heard, Alleluia. Utter it even unto the ends of the earth. The Lord hath delivered his people. O be joyful in God, all ye lands, O sing praises to the honor of His name, make His praise to be glorious.

May God’s presence guard, protect and guide you.
God bless you, God bless you.
Our savior’s loving arms be ever ’round you.
God bless you, God bless you.

Gifts given for Love to flow
Call to Offering
Our gifts help sustain this particular community of caring by sustaining the building, pastors and staff, and all the materials that make our ministry of healing, justice, and teaching available to all in need. In addition, a good portion of our contributions flows out to aid to those in need via many external agencies.
This can now be done online or by text to 859-448-3403 (Example: Text “$50.00 Offering” to contribute to the ongoing ministries, or add “youth,” or “missions” or designation of your choice to benefit one in particular.) If you give online, please place an Eastertide offering card from the red pew folder into the offering plate.
Your contribution is love made visible. Thank you!

Praying it Forward
Ringing of the Peace Bell
The Union Church Peace Bell was created by Jeff Enge in honor of Union Church member Carl Eschbach (1904-1998). A twin bell hangs in Berea’s sister province in Japan and is also rung in the hope of peace for all nations.
Silent Prayers and Prayers of the Community
Our Lord’s Prayer
One: Our Maker, our Mother, and …
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

* Those who wish to may stand
Especially in our prayers
Each week we join millions of Christians who pray for one another through the ecumenical prayer cycle and, locally, the Berea Ministerial Association’s prayer cycle. Let us hold the people of Japan, North Korea, South Korea, and Taiwan and our brothers and sisters at Wallaceton Baptist Church in your hearts, and pray for them.
Please also hold these concerns in your prayers, today and throughout the week:
* Those in harm’s way in service of our country, and those who wait and worry for them.
* For the victims of violence everywhere, and especially under the influence of racial prejudice and simmering fear. Peace to those everywhere our madness reigns.
* Our church family members in nursing homes, or who are homebound: Edith Hansen, Nancy Jones, Mary Miller, Averill Kilbourne, Alva Peloquin, Ruth Butwell
* Kelly Mehler
* Mary K. Kauffman
* Michelle Tooley
* Ed Doty, Patty Boyce’s brother, as he continues treatment for bladder cancer.
* Elicia Holly, mother of Jessica Holly, who fell and broke both legs.
* Leslie Small Stokes’ grandmother, Dorothy Southard, who broke a hip
* Our Confirmation Class members and their mentors
* Dodie Murphy, recovering from knee surgery at Tanbark Rehabilitation in Lexington.
* All of our students in high school, college and seminaries who are preparing for finals: May God sharpen their minds and give them perseverance!
* Naomi Schulz, entering the last month of her seminary degree at Pacific School of Religion. Next week she will meet with a congregation as they together discern if God is calling her to become their new pastor!
