Earlier this year at the request of the Properties Board, Church Council approved spending from Merlin Kindel’s bequest to the church to have the stained glass windows in Cowan Chapel repaired. We had learned over 2 years ago that there was damage to the wooden window jambs and the stained glass needed to be re-glazed. At that time, we received an estimate of cost for a complete renovation of the three damaged windows of nearly $13,000. The Council approved spending $14,000.
We received two quotes and choose to work with Classical Stained Glass from Cincinnati who will repair window jambs, paint the outside and stain inside wood work and re-glaze all six windows for $8,700. They are able to do all the work which substantially lowered the cost of the work and gave us the ability to have all the windows repaired.
We are coordinating schedules, but plan that the work will be done in August. It will take 2 to 3 weeks to complete. The stained glass will need to be taken out and worked on in their shop in Cincinnati and the window spaces will be filled temporarily with plywood. Thank you for your patience during this project.
