On April 12 we will together begin 3 months of a sabbatical season. For me, that will be a chance to catch my breath and renew with a little “heart song” experienced in places dear to me (or about to be). For the church, it’s a season of renewal as well. Thanks to our 2025 Lilly Clergy Renewal Grant, the congregation will have experiences of your own to breathe, to meditate, dance, reduce tension, learn new songs, lift your voice for resilience, and much more.
As the day grows closer, all of the planning is coming down to tinier and tinier things. From “Where shall I go?” the planning has gotten down to “where will I pack this?”
Through it all, I remain humbled and grateful for this extraordinary chance to do what was unthinkable only a few years ago. Thanks to your generosity of spirit and this grant, I’ll be able to travel with Diana to places we could only have dreamt of.
Soon Rev. Christina Ryan Perkins, a trusted and gifted colleague (as well as a fine Berea graduate) will come help lead all of you while I’m catching up on my rest and vision. I’ll be posting pictures and a few reflections as I can over the next several weeks and months, so stop back by or subscribe to these posts. First stop? a 14 hour flight to the mountains of Japan. I hope to sleep the whole way there. đŸ™‚
