Each year we give thanks for the blessing of creation with a special service inspired by St. Francis of Assisi. This year, held in conjunction with our Care of Creation booth at the Berea Solar Fair, more than 35 pets and their “persons” were part of our blessing. Special thanks to all of the Union Church Volunteers who helped welcome each four footed friend, and also to the good folks of Sustainable Berea for all their work to make the day a success.
In addition to individual blessings, an interfaith service with prayers from the Jewish, Buddhist, and Christian tradition were offered. Volunteers also handed out sheets from our Properties Board describing how Union Church’s construction project was reducing our ecological footprint.
Finally, we were also VERY LUCKY to work with 3 cat rescue organizations, TLC; Kitty, Inc; and DG’s cats, who had cats for adoption available. Rev. Kent quipped, “As with all natural resources, so with cats: reduce, reuse, recycle and give them a great new home!” Thanks to those groups for all the work they do. May all creation be blessed by such work!
