Bible Study has a new time: Thursdays at 10:30 am in the Conference Room.
“In the beginning was the Word,” and Union Church has a long-standing Bible Study in which the upcoming Word of the next Sunday’s Bible texts are explored, looking at their context as well as seeking to understand their relevance in our personal lives and in the world. Sometimes, the pastor actually gets materials for the sermon!
We study the Word so that we may find ways to relate and respond accordingly–to make God’s story of love, justice and joy OUR story. And how much better it is when we come together and share ideas and experiences that both enrich our lives and those of others.
Each time we gather, concerns of Union Church members and friends are lifted up in our prayers, which also include help for wisdom and guidance as we encounter the Word from the Lectionary, the set of scriptures chosen for each Sunday and Holy Days from the Hebrew Bible, the Gospels, and other books of the New Testament, as well as the Psalms. The idea is that if one follows the Lectionary, which is in three year cycles, most of the Word will be read. However, sometimes, we are so engaged with a particular Scripture that we may not get to the others for that Sunday. Oh well! That is the beauty of the lively discussions which take place.
Join us! We look forward to welcoming you to our Bible Study led by Rev. Carla Gilbert and others.
