Immediately after service on August 3, members and friends helped clear the pews of hymnals, bibles, and cushions and an intrepid crew began covering the organ with a plastic dust cover. The reason? Our long awaited carpet and flooring upgrade to the sanctuary!
Step one was to remove the side and especially worn pews to make room for our new configuration. Step two was to move ALL the pews to one side so that floor refinishing could begin. All of the carpet is being taken up and replaced (after only 54 years of use!) with the hard pine floors being brought back to original luster. While we couldn’t afford to do the floors in the balcony, we will be refinishing the organ platform and the piano level. Also the stairs in that section will be sanded and refinished and the curved wall and pillars will get a fresh new coat of paint.
Keep posted here for updates and discoveries as we renovate this historic space!
