August 17 Announcements

August 14, 2025

Rev. Kent will be away next week: He’ll leave right after worship today for a training til mid-week at the Highlander Center on nonviolent resistance; and will attend  the Indiana-Kentucky United Church of Christ Annual Gathering on Aug. 22 & 23.

Open Table Community Meals Every Wednesday 5:30pm-6:30pm: “Open Table” is a “pay what you can” ($0-$$) catered meal open to anyone. Chef Deb Beishline and a wonderful crew of volunteers prepare the menu each week always with GF and Vegetarian-friendly options (other needs can be accommodated on request!). Our hope is to remember the gifts of connection with great food the chance to “rub elbows” with neighbors. The food is great, the company is better, the hungry are fed, and we pray the love Jesus will be shown!

Food Handlers Needed: Union Church is working to certify our kitchen to better serve the community. When we do, all workers entering the kitchen or helping with food will need a food handlers license from the Madison County Health Depart-ment and we’ll have to keep a copy on file. The Mission and Service Board will reimburse anyone who takes the test. It can be done online for $15. There is study booklet available online or in the office! Thanks in advance!

  • Vegetable Lasagna with Bechamel
  • GF Vegetable Lasagna
  • Salad
  • Rolls
  • Flourless Chocolate Cake
  • Brownies

Even if you don’t live near Lexington, you can unite your community too. Stand with your neighbors and family and friends where ever you find yourself. People from all walks of life are invited—neighbors, churches, clubs, nonprofits, cultural groups, to either join the big route across the city or host their own mini “Hands Across / Stand Together” gathering. The more the better! Your group can officially endorse the project, and help spread the word. Use this link: forms.gle/JUqsw6yK45gzEFtw8

Here’s our first try at gleaning times/dates/locations online. If anyone has better info (or additions) about  these events, please do let us know! Thank you!
