Union Church is pleased to welcome “Four Shillings Short,” the husband/wife duo of Aodh Og O’Tuama from Cork, Ireland and Christy Martin from California, have been performing together since 1995. They tour in the US and Ireland, are independent folk-artists with 13 recordings, perform 100 concerts a year and live as the Troubadours of old traveling from town to town performing at music festivals, theatres & performing arts centers, folk & historical societies, libraries, museums and schools. Born in Cork, Ireland, Aodh Óg (pronounced, ayog) studied Medieval and Renaissance music in college. He received a music fellowship to study at Stanford University in 1983. Played in a group called Drivelling Druids before forming the group Four Shillings Short.
A multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Christy was born into a musical family. She played the sitar for 10 years, starting at the age of 16 and took up folk music in the ’80’s. She has been playing hammered dulcimer since 1993. She was formerly in a band called Your Mother Should Know. In addition to service this morning, all are invited to a special concert at 7pm (at Russel Acton Folk Center, 212 W. Jefferson St., Berea, KY 40403) The Concert is presented by the Berea Folk Circle Association and is open to the public. Admission is by donation.
All-Church conversation today, after Worship & Coffee Hour: You’re invited to join in a conversation, led by Rev. Kent, about how we can sustain our beloved Union Church community going forward – funding what matters, engaging new folks into the work, how we staff this effort, and what we can do that we are not currently doing. YOUR voice is important, you are invited to partici-pate – or attend and listen. Other opportunities will come this spring.
Pew Cushions from the sanctuary are available if you want them—approx. 15 in x 8 ft. They are dry now BUT did get wet with sprinkler water (however clean or not, we don’t know) when the sanctuary flooded, and some show wear. The insurance company is replacing them on the affected side. They’re in the Parlor for pickup and we’ll toss them soon if they’re unclaimed.

They provide 24/7 phone and in-person support, wrap around services, case management and advocacy to ensure foster parents are true partners in creating nurturing, safe and stable homes within which traumatized youth are able to heal.
Small Groups at Union Church!
It is clear in the New Testament that small groups were critical to the fellowship, communal life, and discipling of followers of Jesus.
Union Church offers several opportunities for visitors, new members, friends, and members to get involved in a small group of interest to them. Some of these groups are based on reading books, some on studying scripture through the Lectionary, some on social justice, life issues, new member groups, in-the-news discussion groups, or groups built around hiking, walking, lunches, music, dinners, etc. which often also include discussions of recent sermons and/or worship experiences.
If there is a group you would like to offer up to host/facilitate, you may contact our Program Coordinator djones@union-church.org. Check out the current offerings below & at our website: union-church.org/ministries/adult/small-groups/
