This Sunday, November 20th is the Alternative Giving Christmas Market – 12:00-2:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to get your Christmas shopping done early and give the gift of hope for the future. We will also have a soup and bread fundraiser lunch for BFCO (BURR, Food Bank, etc). Come and get your choice of several homemade soups and take time to shop for the perfect gift for your family and friends.
Alternative gifts are donations to local, state, national and international non-profit organizations in the name of a friend or loved one. These gifts include contributions to provide health care, housing, heat, clothing, environmental programs, food, emergency medical care and more to those in need. This year the Union Church Mission Board is matching contributions made during the Alternative Giving Christmas Market! We will be providing $5,000 to the event, which will be distributed based on the amounts given during the event. So, if a nonprofit receives 10% of the donations at the event, the Mission Board will match this amount with $500, which is 10% of the $5,000. Please see the current version of the shopping list (below) and let us know if there are other organizations that you would like to include.
The perfect gift is often the one that reflects our hopes and dreams for our community and world and with many community-wide nonprofit organizations, there is something for everyone. If you want to include a display for nonprofit that you are supporting, you can contact Gina Chamberlain at jakeberea@ yahoo.com or Jessica Holly at jessicadholly@hotmail.com. We also still need donations of soup, bread, crackers and finger desserts. Please contact Gina at jakeberea@yahoo.com if you are able to assist in food donations. Please drop off food contributions on Sunday morning before the worship service. THANK YOU!!!
Look at your list, is there someone you forgot?
Your special alternative gifts will
- provide funds for organizations to continue their missions
- give a special and different gift
- give you the pleasure of knowing your gifts this year reflect the wishes of the recipient for a better world
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS A SPECIAL SHOPPING TRIP!
Checks should be made out to PeaceCraft, which will send a check for 100% of the donations made to each organization, charging no fee for this service.
