LOVE DEMANDS PASSIONATE WORSHIP
From our Mission Statement:
PASSIONATE WORSHIP
We will boldly and creatively embody the life and ministry of Jesus with passionate worship that celebrates the transforming love of God. In every setting where we meet we will proclaim God’s inclusive care and prophetic witness, empowering all persons to worship with joy and develop a deeper closeness to God in a ministry of all believers. We will offer our widely varying gifts of scripture, prayer, music, dance, drama, visual art, the spoken word, and the beauty of our actions to inspire those of every generation to follow in God’s way.
At Union Church, we believe that every human soul has been created with the deep, sometimes unfelt, need to worship. When the individual does not recognize this need for what it is, their soul’s demand for worship may be turned toward unhealthy or unhelpful acts and attitudes. When the soul is supported and nurtured with the proclamation of “God’s inclusive care and prophetic witness,” when it is empowered to find the joy in worship of a Creator whose love transforms, that worship springs forth in joy and power that cannot be predicted or contained. The worship services within the church experiences will spill over to fill all of daily life with the same power and joy.
The Worship Board is tasked with constantly seeking creative and bold ways to embody this worshipful attitude which we see in the stories of the Christ. They work with the Pastor(s) and Music Director(s) to make visible abundant hospitality and passionate worship. Their responsibilities include:
- Helping to create passionate worship experiences
- Encouraging aesthetic/visual qualities of the church conducive to worship
- Preparing and maintaining equipment and procedures necessary for congregational worship and communication of the gospel–this includes such things as hearing assistance devices and greeting all comers with welcome and bulletins
- Arranging for pulpit supply when necessary
- Additional services as needed.
