On the longest night of the year, we gather to remember that not everything about the season feels merry and bright. This special service is for anyone experiencing a sense of loss.
It is for those wishing to offer prayers for those around them suffering depression, loss of health, or a death of someone close. You do not have to be a member of this church or any church to be a part of the service, nor need you dress up. This is a “come as you are and as you feel” gathering, and prayers for healing, holding on, and seeing a little more light, will be offered for anyone who wishes. You are also welcome to come and simply be surrounded by others who care.
The service will be Saturday at 7pm, in the Cowan Chapel of Union Church. Cowan is the smaller chapel located on the south side of the building. You can enter either through the office entrance in the back of the church, or by the Chapel entrance that faces the Alumni Building of Berea College. All are welcome.
on miracles
I’ve always thought
that the virgin birth was just a distraction
from the real and utterly unbelievable
miracle of Christmas:
that love survives its birth in the world.
That it survives
even when fear
and hatred
and cynicism
would put it to its death.
That love still lives today.
