Climate Change is the theme for the 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day. On April 22, 1970, US Senator, Gaylord Nelson organized a national “teach in” to educate and inspire people to protect the environment. The result was the Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species Act and the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency. In recent years, we have seen the power to protect the environment eroded for the both law and the agency. Personal responsibility for climate change action might be the most powerful thing we can do at the moment. This week Kent will light the Justice candle in honor of the struggle for environmental justice around the planet. We acknowledge that our earth is in danger and commit to take action.
