Christmas at Union Church is filled with music, candle light, and great love. People from every faith tradition are welcome to join us in keeping Christmas at any or all of these services. Services in the main sanctuary will also be broadcast live via the web and can be viewed HERE.
December 20th: Long Night Service, 7:00pm (Cowan Chapel)
Near the longest night of the year we gather for prayer to remember that not every one can be filled with joy. Grief, depression, loss, illness, and hardships of all kinds are remembered and prayers are offered for their healing. This is a “come as you are” service, both emotionally and otherwise. You do not need to be a member of Union Church or any tradition to be held in the light and strengthened for your journey. Many also come on behalf of those who cannot come themselves. During the service, a time of prayer for healing will be offered with the laying on of hands. Communion (both wine and grapejuice) will also be offered.
December 24th: Christmas Eve
5:00pm Concert of Christmas Music & 5:30pm Family Christmas Service (Main Sanctuary)
Christmas Eve begins with special musicians, including Al and Alice White, Ruth McLain Smith, and others as we enter the the holiday. The service proper begins at 5:30 with a worship service of carols and readings, culminating in a candle-lit “Silent Night.” Please join us afterwards for a potluck finger-food reception in the community room. A dish to pass is a welcome addition, but come and enjoy regardless.
11:00pm Candle-lit Communion Service (Cowan Chapel)
This lovely service is open to all and is held in the intimate Cowan Chapel, on the Scaffold Cane side of the church buildings. Enter either from the College Triangle walk way, or park behind the main sanctuary and follow the walk between the church playground and Kettering Dormitory. Filled with hymns and light, we will welcome the Christ child with prayer and a celebration of communion. All of the bread is gluten free and both wine and grape juice will be offered.
December 25: Christmas Day — No Services
December 27: First Sunday after Christmas, 10:30 am (Main Sanctuary)
Join us at our regular Sunday worship service, this week graced by the Rev. Joe White, Berea native and Berea College graduate who will join Rev. Kent and bring the sermon. We will also be welcoming our many friends and visitors, musicians and dancers, from around the country who have come to participate in Berea College’s Christmas County Dance School.
