The General Committee is comprised of representatives of each of the other boards, 3 members at large, and all the officers and pastoral staff of the Church. It serves as an executive committee for the congregation, coordinating the work of all the boards and supervising planning, projects, and the overall ministry of the church. The Board of Christian Education empowers the ministry of the whole congregation and of individual members by providing opportunities for learning about the Christian faith, spiritual development, and a life of service. Working with the Director of Christian Education, the board supervises program for both children and adults, recruits teachers and session leaders, and creates special educational opportunities, such as Lenten studies, retreats, and Bible studies. The CE board also oversees Youth Group programming and nursery staffing.
The Board of Deacons stewards the spiritual and worship life of the congregation. Their work is organized into three broad categories of service: Congregational Care, Worship, Membership.
The Mission Board is responsible for educating, inspiring, and empowering Christ’s love beyond the walls of Union Church. With our gifts of time, energy, skills, talents, and money the Mission Board helps the congregation to seek peace and justice, and practice of inclusive love in ways that reflect the congregation's ongoing struggle to understand the teachings of Jesus and to translate them into meaningful commitment and action.
The Board of Trustees stewards the financial and physical resources of the
congregation to empower it’s ministry across all program and outreach. This
includes managing the properties of the church including land, buildings and
equipment and the acceptance or disposition of property as authorized by the
congregation; fostering a strong sense of stewardship among members and
conducting an annual campaign; managing investments; establishing policy for
secretarial and custodial personnel including recommending terms of employment
and providing annual letters of employment and assisting the pastor (s) in
day-to-day supervision, evaluation and resolution of on-the-job problems. A special liaison committee of the congregation, which actively seeks to support and maintain an open and healthy relationship between the pastor and the members of the congregation. Its goals are the professional growth of the pastor, the well-being of the pastor and the congregation, and the promotion of mutual ministry between the pastor and the congregation. There are six members on the committee, two elected each year at the annual spring business meeting. The members of the committee welcome your thoughts and input.
